Plastic milling is a machine process whereby material is removed using a rotating tool. We specialise in the CNC milling of plastic sheets, bars and blocks and we can mill virtually any flat or 3D shape to order for you.
Plastic milling: how it works
Milling is a much-used process in the plastic processing industry and is suitable for all kinds of plastic. This machine process removes material by means of a rotating tool. This enables contours, holes and slots, among others, to be milled into plastic sheets. It also enables 3D shapes to be cut out of blocks.
In the milling of plastic, we make use of an advanced five axis, three dimensional CNC-controlled milling machine with a working range of 4800 x 1800 x 1200 mm. The machine is equipped with a tool-changing system with eight positions and it reads digital files effortlessly. This enables us to process all kinds of thermoplastic synthetic material quickly, efficiently and with great precision to produce a finished made-to-measure product.
Alongside plastic contour milling, hole drilling and slot milling, another Scheurman specialisation is model milling. This involves milling complex 3D shapes from blocks of plastic. These models are mainly used for prototypes and moulds.
Which materials are suitable?
All kinds of plastic can be processed by means of milling. We mainly mill the following plastics:
- Acrylic / PMMA, also known as Plexiglas® and Perspex®
- Polycarbonate (PC), also known as Lexan®
- PETG
- PVC
Machines / equipment
We have an advanced, five axis, three dimensional, CNC-controlled milling machine at our disposal for the milling of plastic. It is equipped with a versatile tool-changing system, which enables drilling, diamond milling and tapping and if necessary, we can have a special milling tool made to order for you.
Specifications
We can mill products with maximum dimensions of 4800 x 1800 x 1200 mm on our CNC-controlled, five axis, three dimensional milling machine.
