Plastic blowing

Plastic blowing is a form of thermal (heat) reshaping, which is primarily used to produce clear-cast acrylic sheet. We specialise in the blowing of oval bowls and semi-spheres to order.

Plastic blowing: how it works

As with every kind of thermal reshaping, when blowing plastic the sheet material is first heated, making it plastic (pliable). This takes place in a thermal oven. The plastic sheet is then stretched over a mould and blown up using compressed air. The shape of the mould and the height to which the plastic is blown determine the final shape of the product. The blown material then retains this shape after cooling.

This specialised processing technique allows us to make oval bowls and semi-spheres of various sizes in any colour you want. Applications include illuminated advertising, decorative and design objects for interiors, and shop fittings.
